James Lingwood

For over 25 years James Lingwood has been producing and directing films and television series throughout Australia, Asia and Europe. With over 60 international film and television awards to his name, James has worked with some of the best actors and performers in the world, namely 1997 Academy Award Winner Geoffrey Rush (‘Shine’, ‘The Life and Death of Peter Sellers’, ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’, ‘Shakespeare in Love’), a superstar who needs no introduction, Jackie Chan, and one of the most prolific television presenter-personalities, Martin Yan (‘Yan Can Cook’, the longest running cooking show in the world). James has also worked with actors, directors and personalities extensively throughout Asia, including Michael Wong (actor), Alan Chan (designer), Anne Hui (director), Flora Cheong-Leen (fashion designer), Warren Mok (opera singer), Robert Lam (photo-lab entrepreneur) and Yon Fan (director).

In 1988, James directed the ground-breaking and award-winning television documentary series ‘Voyage of the Great Southern Ark’, for which Hollywood composer Graeme Revell (‘Daredevil’, ‘The Negotiator’, ‘The Insider’) wrote and designed the music soundtrack.

At the end of 1991, James re-located to Hong Kong where his company, Lingwood Productions became one of Asia’s leading film and television companies. During that time, James worked and became friends with two world-acclaimed cinematographers, Bob Huke (‘The Virgin and the Gypsy’, ‘Under Milkwood)’, and Ken Talbot (‘Born Free’, ‘The Devil Within Her’) and writer/director Robin Hardy (‘The Wicker Man’). Bob Huke and Robin Hardy encouraged James to develop his recently optioned short story ‘Thanatos Palace Hotel’ by French writer Andre Maurois. This collaboration inspired Robin Hardy to write the first three drafts of ‘Last Chance Hotel’.

Whilst continuing to expand his film base throughout Asia, James began to collect and option screenplays, novels and stories. Including ‘Last Chance Hotel’, James now has several feature film projects in development.

James has recently produced & directed a one hour documentary, ‘From The Dragon’s Mouth’, which recently screened worldwide on BBC World. A unique and epic film ten years in the making, it chronicles Hong Kong’s journey from the Handover in 1997 from Great Britain to China, to today. James is also currently developing a slate of blue-chip international television series & documentaries and a couple of low budget horror films.

With his Palmwood Pictures business partner Mark Norfolk, James is currently developing a powerful and revealing feature documentary, entitled “Father Joe & the Bangkok Slaughterhouse” slated for both theatrical & broadcast markets. Palmwood Pictures is also working on a new multi-platform initiative Bigg TV which has recently been launched.

Due to his dedication and commitment to the pursuit of excellence as a filmmaker, James was invited in 1995 to become a member of the International Quorum of Motion Picture Producers, a passionate organization of award-winning producers and directors from 40 countries around the world. James is also a member of the Australian Directors Guild, and an Executive Member of the National Chinese Documentary Film Association.
